one junior girl from my high school life was taken three weeks ago by a drunk driver going to wrong way on the toll road.

it doesn't feel real at all.

i wish people wouldn't need a video to show them what could happen, and just wouldn't do it in the first place...

As I have moved on through these deployments, and up in the ranks, I have sent home more friends than I care to remember, to be laid to rest. After all these years, I have learned that our legacy comes not in our actions, but in the impact our actions leave, and the lessons our future generations learn from us. I lost a few friends in high school to drunk driving, and street racing. And you are learning to address the problem better than we ever did.

group of high school kids, with the help of their staff, is incredible. The extent to which this was taken, involving the HFD, the EMTs, the life flight helicopter. None of this planning could have been easy. But you pulled it off incredibly. You are proof positive that as the city grows over our childhood stomping grounds, nestled in the Aldine ISD area there are still families doing a great job of aising their children with a work ethic and values. I cannot tell you how beautiful it is see.

I am a graduate of Nimitz, class of 2002. I've spent the last 8 years of my life in the military, deploying and deploying again, in fact I am typing this from a tiny outpost in Afghanistan. Houston is my home however, it always will be, and I often wonder how the youth of our great city are treating it, and learning and growing in their surroundings, as we did.
