@haikat4 Dont get that connection at all, it seems pretty specifically about addiction and reliance on modern technology, i.e always seeing screens, and longing to live a bit more naturally, he's thinking he might feel more alive if he spent less time lost in 'screens'.

@nauseousqueasy You're right. More of their songs are about rejecting materialism than anything else

@RyanWatson Lol'd so hard. Yeah, Brian Wilson blows a big dick.

@Dougolai I don't think so but I doubt you'd want to listen to it without the visual aspect. There are some amazing pieces of music on Oddsac but alot of it's soundscapes which were written to accompany the visuals. It kind of needs to taken as a whole in my opinion aside from a few tracks such as this, Mr Fingers, Tantrum Barb which work as stand alone pieces.

@nauseousqueasy What a lame answer .

alot like the beach boys.

@nauseousqueasy I'd venture to say that you're both wrong. The song is pretty obviously a lamentation of the prevalence of technology in our lives. The "outer space i can never touch" is the internet, which "cripples my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places" because we tend to filter our internet experience to our own interests and beliefs.
As for the song being anti-materialistic, I'd argue the opposite. The lyrics definitely favor the tangible over the virtual.

you know how a song makes you feel a certain way. they accomplished it with visuals that perfectly match the song. mid lake did a good version with "it covers the hillsides" too.

Animal Collective will always be associated with psychedelic drugs. They just go together so well.
this song is so obviously about tripping face. "outer-space that I can never touch." "crippling my abilities to breathe and take a step out from my usual places." seeing screens?? these guys have obviously tripped on a lot of shit

@haikat4
i think it's about being true to yourself and not letting all the outside influences of the material world influence who you are. not all their songs are about drugs, in fact most aren't...
