Deb-One of the reasons we love Ostrich farming is that we are able to supply a very healthy meat to the general public. If you ever go into any fine dining restaurants you will normally find ostrich steaks there. Did you know an ostrich egg is equivalent to 24 chicken eggs. We love to eat these when they are fresh and we make omelettes and scrambled eggs and over easy takes around 45 minutes. One of the fun aspects of ostrich farming is being able to show someone a real live ostrich egg. As you can see a lot of people like to hand carve these or they like to paint them. Another benefit of Ostriches are the feathers. They are magnetic and that is why they are used as feather dusters. They are also used in a lot of floral arrangements and brides love them and if you ever go to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans when it starts up again that's where you will see lots of Ostrich feathers. And here is a hide made from the leg of an ostrich and we have a purse made from the full hide. The second best part of an ostrich is the oil which is derived from the fat. The fat contains a large amount of essential fatty acids, so its used in different applications on the skin. Arthritis, Eczema, fine lines and sun burns. In the whole family of these birds the emu oil and the rhea oil also has the same healing contents.
This is very informative. Thanks!
