@RoozleRay No treats. She's working for her breakfast. On training days I feed her her meal a piece at a time. She's also insanely energetic, so she runs it all off in minutes.

This is pretty much exactly how I taught my dog. It's been 3 days now (probably 5 X 15 minute sessions) and she is now doing 2 hop/steps towards me with a raised paw. Now working on getting more steps. IMO the "muscle memory" bit is the most important. My dog "got" doing a little hop with the paw raised very quickly but it's the actual forward movement on 3 legs that they need most practise with, to get the co-ordination.

@j3ssdavis I always have to play around with motivators for my dog... so I busted out a special toy (as he wasn't trying very hard to figure out my criteria with food rewards) and he's making little hops without support! Woo hoo! Thanks for the help!

@j3ssdavis Thank you!
How long did it take your dog to 'get' not relying on your hand for support? We've been through maybe 5 sessions or so but when I encourage him to move forward, paw raised, w/o the support of my hand, he doesn't really 'get it.' Very cute dog, by the way... I'm not usually attracted to Aussies, but yours is beautiful!

@canidkeeper11 I can't really remember how long it took. Are you able to get one or two hops forward while you support him? If so, try maybe dropping the support part way through the hop, or only support extremely lightly. It's a pretty big jump to go from supported to unsupported, so try to break it down into tinier steps for him.
And thanks!

Hello! Great video. Just wondering, at what step (if any) you introduce a voice command along with your hand signal? I'm going to try this with my AS soon!

@mdbrown12 I always introduce voice once the dog is performing it reliably via hand signal. Voice would be added in the very last step.

You have a beautiful aussie there! Is he still young?

@HoneybunchBunny Yes, she's still pretty young. She was born Aug 09, which makes her about 14 months old in this video.
