I think that with surrealism, the person's ideas about the movie may or may not be connected to the person itself. Lynch just followed what was in his mind. And sub-consciously, the idea behind it became visible in the film. I don't think he really knew what he was trying to prove. I think he was trying to make the viewer's mind sub-consciously come up with a moral itself. This film is very hypnotizing, and when watching for the first time, you'll just think that "Wow, this guy was insane!"

David Lynch always does things in this surrealistic sense. With surrealism, things don't seem to make much sense at first. But if you look at things a bit closer, you'll find that most things are symbolic. Surrealism lets your mind do the thinking sub-consciously. I think that Eraserhead represents pure dread. Whether it be from sexual inadequacy or just depression. I also think the pure ambiance throughout the movie represented how empty people or on the inside.

Well seeing as I wrote a dissertation on the films of Lynch for my masters degree and had to study his work academically for 8 months then I disagree that I'm an idiot for having an educated opinion. Sorry to sound pretentious, but come on, if "you're an idiot" is all you can come up then thats pretty poor form old chap!
