An Italian carol, from Naples, to be precise. It is the "song of the zampogna-players". The zampogna is a agpipe having two melody pipes and several drones. I used a scordatura on my ukulele: g-d-e-a. Throughout the piece, the open g and d string give the drones of the bagpipe, where the e and a string play the part of the two melody pipes.
