In the last video we discussed how employers analyze criminal records. Now it is time for you to decide if you want to pursue expungement. Here are a few facts you should know before you get started.

Number one, expungement is not the same thing as sealing. The terms are very close in meaning with subtle differences. However, an expungement means that the criminal record is erased as if they crime never happened. Sealing simply hides the record and make it no longer public information. This is important because each state has different laws that apply to each of these terms.

Number two...Each state also varies on what types of charges can be expunged or sealed and who can get their records expunged. It would be nice if expungement was open to everyone...However most violent felonies and serious crimes are not eligible. Records that are usually expunged include: juvenile records, acquittals, dismissals, and some non-violent felonies.

And lastly, once your records are expunged you are free to tell employers that you have never been arrested or charged of a crime. This is obviously the greatest benefit of expungement.

If you are interested in expunging or sealing your records, you need to pull your rap sheet and find out the specifics of your charges. This can be done manually by contacting every court system in the counties you were arrested. However, you will save time and money and get accurate results by using a company like Integrasan.com to pull the records for you. Simply log onto the website, enter your information and access your records.
