This four dimensional chess game you can find in Oulu Science Park (Oulun Tietomaa). The photoes were taken in 2001 and June 2007. The game was producted in the University of Jyväskylä as well as TriChess. The name TriChess was given by professor Frank Harary in 1993. The World champion Anatoly Karpov received the very first piece of TriChess after playing it in 1996. In 1998 the president of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari was interested in TriChess game and got one, which was made especially for him.
All these games are part of the Universal Chess.

  • music is lonely sheppard from kill bill

  • @Redflowers9

The music was made by Jussi Talaskivi (see the other video about 3 way chess, 1:21) in 1999 - 2000. Kill Bills came out 2003-2004. "Lonely Sheppard" is older, but not so known before Kill Bills, I think. Interesting comment, I have to listen if I can find any similarities.

  • Maybe if "gods" exist, they'd be playing the 4D chess game : our lives.

  • @Akshaylive

Nice comment, that reminds me about this:

"Impotent Pieces of the Game He plays

    Upon this Chequer-board of Nights and Days;

Hither and thither moves, and checks, and slays,

And one by one back in the Closet lays. "

    (Omar Khayyam 1048–1131)

  • I was kind of hoping for an intense time-traveling chess match... :(

"Ha, my rook takes your queen!"

"Not so fast! My pawn jumps into the time vortex to where your rook was being sculpted and pays the modeler with a lobster dinner to plant an explosive into the rook making him explode before he can take my queen."

"Good try, but I already sent my knight two hours before and gave the modeler a gift certificate and a box of cookies to turn your bishop into an assassin! Check!"

    "...douchebag."

The fourth dimension was earlier interpreted as time, but not anymore in modern physics. However, you can always imagine 4th dimension as a "time". In this game the question is about geometric 4th dimension, which is expressed as a projection to 3rd dimension. I hope to add here later on another video to explain this in details.

  • this told me almost nothing

  • @dr007Orm Perfect quote for the context. Thanks for the share..

  • @bongobong84 Intresting opinion. Imagine this : In standard chess, a rook moves in a one dimension, which is 1 dimension less than the board's dimensions. Imagine the 3D chess with a rook that controls planes (2D). In that case, 3D chess may be playable.

  • Finland! Fuck yea :p

  • @infoseeker228 4th dimension usually =/= time. its just another direction.

  • @infoseeker228 its practically impossible to checkmate the opposite, because of the many ways a king can move. in standerd 2D-chess, there are 8 (eight) positions a king can move at most, which is (3^2)-1. In 3D , this expanded to 26, which is (3^3)-1. So in 4D , a king has (3^4)-1 = 80 possibilities to move (at most). if this game still is playable, there has to be a heigh number of VERY strong chessmen, otherwise you can't checkmate.
