A walkthrough of the '64/'65 World's Fair structure. Shot with Flip UltraHD while volunteering on the terrazzo tile map floor restoration project, November 28 2009.
@kptn6 It also had a map of New York State on the floor, and elevators up to the observation decks (the round flying-saucer shaped things were observation decks). I also recall it having a theatre, one of those in-the round theatres.
@kptn6 Hi, great question! This is the New York State Pavilion, designed by Philip Johnson and constructed for the 1964-65 World's Fair that took place in Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, New York. Also known as the "Tent of Tomorrow" it originally included stained-glass roof tiles, which were removed several years ago.
I wish i could of been there. That's something I would of loved to help with considering my passion for the saving and restoration of the pavilion itself. I hope someone eventually ends up getting enough funding for the whole project and maybe even the whole Air and Space Museum idea. Anyway, great video; there's not much footage of inside the pavilion because its so hard to get inside most of the time. Thanks!!
How is the restoration coming along? I visited there in 2006 but couldn't see the inside. Am planning on visiting there again this coming spring.
