  • hi, the advantage of roll-tacking is, that you're allowed to pump the sail.

When you bring the boat from a heeled position back upright, you move the sail to windward, which produces wind in the sail. You therefore enforce the wind in the sail, which helps to accelerate faster, coming out of the tack.

Watch the boat making nearly a jump forward, while it's brought back upright.

  • actually you can roll the boot to leeward which produces weather helm. Just consider that every movement of the boat cuts off the wind-flow in the sail and the waterflow around the foils, which lets you slow down.

In such light air it's best to just roll the boat to windward and try to keep the sail constantly filled as long as possible.

Therefor the first tack is not perfect

  • thx guys, I very appreciate that...

  • this wind sucks! why would you go out in this weather

  • I hate rolltackimg in light wind it feels like more work to get up

  • I hate rolltackim

  • @fettermatze but......the mast cant go past the perfectly vertical position...in other words the mast cant be rocked to weather...dips to leeward b4 the tack...rocks through the tack....then flattens boat out after the tack..but cant be actually rocked to weather. under the kenetics rules...pumping rocking ooching..im sure you know this but some ppl watchin may not...cheers n good work

  • even the yacht with spini up in the back ground cant keep up with those insane rolls

  • @sailorjackalman While you flatten, you should ease the main and make sure the tiller is centered or a bit to leeward. It is important to ease the main further in lighter air, but overtrim as you come flat to prevent overflattening. If you come out of the tack faster than you went in, you then need to sheet back out more slowly.

  • The sail is just not in far enough. That's why it's not accelerating how it should.

  • you call that a roll tack?! those are awful! wayyy too slow

  • how do you tack with getting your rudder out of the water but still gain speed because i find that the boat stalls if you roll the boat too much. thanks
