This is made entirely with the software "Reason 6" by propellerhead - though I try to explain why I do things not just what to do, so it can be used with other DAWs as well.

Question about EQ & compression: I noticed on your kick you put compression 1st in the chain then the EQ, and that you boosted frequencies. But I've read that elements are easier to mix when one attenuates frequencies and that boosting creates extra signal, whereas cutting just cuts some off. Should you cut frequencies you don't want and then compensate volume loss with compression and make-up gain as opposed to simply boosting, or do you think it really matters?

@TheSoundCenter As long as you don't boost so much it ends up audibly clipping there's nothing wrong with boosting rather than cutting. I think in terms of boosting normally, like a synth will sound like it needs more high end to me, so that's just the way I work. It really doesn't matter though.

I've done the beat but when I go to make the clap and snare nothing plays. I have clicked on all of the keyboard notes but nothing. I'm using Reason 5.
