This is a cover by the The Beach Boys. They released it on their 1969 album 20/20 with Carl Wilson on lead vocals, and was their first single released in stereo.
With Brian Wilson losing more and more interest in producing for the Beach Boys, younger brother Carl "stepped in" as the role of producer and lead Beach Boy.

This song is considered by many as Carl Wilson's first taste at being the "leader" of the group. The song is also notable for being the first Beach Boys song that Brian did not sing on.
'I can hear music' reached #24 in US and #10 in UK.

@ThomasFMPayne My opinion of ML has been formed by what I've read about the BB's. One can't believe everything one reads, but what I've read by a variety of authors, ML is not portrayed in the best light. Watch early videos of the BB's, ML can dance. So, was he trying to crack up the guys? If so, why? There is a website out there (I'm not going to give the name), where people rant about why they hate ML. In the end (regardless of ML), it's the music that counts, and it remains, incredible.

@twowaystreet101 Haa...yup, I just did, I've listened to it now about 8 times! Man, can't get enough of Carl's voice. No shit man...did they really even need mike Love after about 1965..? Not really...I've heard he's a total prick in real life. Read Chuck Negrons book (of Three Dog Night) and he has some great stories about meeting Brain and how AMAZING he was and what a tool Mike Love was...

@stingray1964 I think he is right there with Elvis and Sinatra. I have gone to 5 beach Boys concerts in 20 years. They try to duplicate his voice but can't quite do it. Those days are over.. sad.
