Between the years 1899 and 1913 the United States of America wrote the darkest pages of its history. The invasion of the Philippines__ for no other reason than acquiring imperial possessions, prompted a fierce reaction of the Filipino people. 126000 American soldiers were brought in to quell the resistence. As a result, 400000 Filipino "insurrectos" died under the American fire and one million Filipino civilians died because of the hardship, mass killings and scorched earth tactics carried out by the Americans. In total the American war against a peaceful people who fairly ignored the existence of the Americans until their arrival wiped out 1/6 of the population of the country. One hundred years have passed. Isn't it high time that the USA army, Congress and Government apologised for the horrendous crimes and monstruous sufferings that inflicted upon the peoples of Filipinas?

Música: Campanades a morts.
LETRA(original catalán)
Campanades a morts
fan un crit per la guerra
dels tres fills que han perdut
les tres campanes negres.
I el poble es recull
quan el lament s'acosta,
ja són tres penes més
que hem de dur a la memòria.
Campanades a morts
per les tres boques closes,
ai d'aquell trobador
que oblidés les tres notes!
Qui ha tallat tot l'alè
d'aquests cossos tan joves,
sense cap més tresor
que la raó dels que ploren?
Assassins de raons, de vides,
que mai no tingueu repòs en cap dels vostres dies
i que en la mort us persegueixin les nostres memòries.
Campanades a morts
fan un crit per la guerra
dels tres fills que han perdut
les tres campanes negres.
II
Obriu-me el ventre
pel seu repòs,
dels meus jardins
porteu les millors flors.
Per aquests homes
caveu-me fons,
i en el meu cos
hi graveu el seu nom.
Que cap oratge
desvetllí el son
d'aquells que han mort
sense tenir el cap cot.

We were not taught this in the American schools I attended (Southern Califormia in the 60s and 70s). They said we "annexed" the Phillipines. The word "annexed" got quite a work- out in American history books. It covered up what we did overseas.
I did not know the extent of the invasion/genocide in the Phillipines until seeing this video.
Thank you so much for showing this.

It's sad to see the history of the Philippines. U.S. made there a great human and linguistic genocide. They wiped out 10 percent of the population of Philippines in that war and the Spanish language (for 400 years was talked in Philippines). United States destroyed in forty years the use of Spanish and the Filipino genocide will cost lives to 1,000,000 Filipinos As an example we can see in 3:01 compliance with the order of U.S. General Smith: kill children over 10 years.

In my antique book collection, I own the Harper's History of the war in the Philippines, which is the definitive historical document for the Philippine-American war. According to Harper's weekly, the estimated Filipinos killed during this one encounter is 10,000 Filipinos. A total tally of Filipino war dead for the whole war was in and around 130,000+ That's roughly 10% of the Philippine population in and around the turn of the century. If that is not genocide... What is?

My reply to @petercparsons, It is not tame and it is genocide when a general orders to "kill everyone over the age of ten" and make the island "a howling wilderness" in response to a killing of a single american soldier (General Jacob Smith). He almost wiped out the province of Samar.

It is a pity that the victor has written history and this is almost not at all taught in high school. What a travesty of truth and justice.
Que pena y que triste. Gracias por el video
