@jeffhegarty Greetings A 'Sabretache' is the name given to a periodical British military magazine, it is very detailed and records military historical events. Sabretache is a French word, one of the military words like 'Platoon' or Brigade; all borrowed from the French. A Sabretache is a wallet worn over the shoulder by cavalrymen for carrying messages. It is worn today on ceremonial parades. To translate it you have the word Sabre and tasche (sword and wallet). makes no sense in English.
i am welsh and proud to be a celt, my woman is english. i love her and the irish are the best of people, as are the scots, its time to forget the past and enjoy our lives, great britain fights too many home battles, the enemy is out there, time to hold on to our future.

If this song belongs to anybody, it belongs to the Irish and British infantry that fought together side by side for nearly five long muddy and bloody years from 1914 until 1918. This marching song is their legacy, left for us to enjoy and perhaps now and again remember the brave youth that first made it so popular!
