I believe at the 2:20 mark the stop is Port Henry, Essex County, New York, about 50 miles or so south of Plattsburgh. If so, the engine and cars on the siding would have been used to haul iron ore from the mines in Witherbee and Mineville, down to this mainline until the early 1970s.

Actually they do. During the fall season (right now) select trains have the Budd full length dome on them. Check amtraks website for train numbers.

Too bad AMTRAK dosen't have an occasional dome car on its "Adirondack" trains. Would be nice if they had seasonal open-cars as well, weather permitting. Another really cool thing would be to have a mini TV camera in the cab so passengers could watch from LCD screens.

That's gotta be pretty sweet riding out side like that, kinda like riding in the back of a pickup truck i would suppose. I always loved doing that in the summer. And why can't they use those dome cars anymore? So much better than the observation cars they have now.

Do they use the viewliners in normal service? I want to do this in a week or 2 with some family and friends.....
