Once known as the 'California Riviera', the Salton Sea is now called one of America's worst ecological disasters: a fetid, stagnant, salty lake, coughing up dead fish and birds by the thousands. Yet a few hardy eccentrics hang on to hope.Through their perceptions and misperceptions, the strange history and unexpected beauty of the Salton Sea is revealed. 'Accidentally' created by an engineering error in 1905, reworked in the 50's as a world class vacation destination for the rich and famous, suddenly abandoned after a series of hurricanes, floods, and fish die-offs, and finally almost saved by Congressman Sonny Bono, the Salton Sea has a bittersweet past.

how about preserve the salty lake but green the land by using water effluent / water treatment from nearby city or nearby river, if the land also salty, create a artificial tropical marshes vegetation

i go out here alot (i live in Ramona ca San diego area) its a short drive and its a mind fuck to go see. great areas to ride in the dunes near by and fun to check out the ghost like towns.

About 20 years ago when I was a kid my old man used to take me dove hunting and corvina fishing at the salton sea.

great video but you failed to mention that Mexicali dumps its sewer into the New River which flows into the south end of the Salton Sea.
