Out of this World for the Sega Genesis. In this video you can see the introduction, complete level one and about half of level two.

I am posting a series of Out of this World videos from different versions so that you can compare and see the differences between versions. The Genesis version seems to have better control and run a little faster than the SNES version, but lacks the great music of the Sega CD version and the beautiful graphics from the 3DO.

This video was not emulated, it was recorded from genuine Sega CDX hardware.

  • Hmm, the SNES version is more sluggish, and it has a little ticking clock for loading between levels, the only place the Genesis version seems to suffer is the music and sound effects.

It's a shame the SNES version was such a sluggish port, since it was my first experience with this game.

I just played through the PC 15th anniversary re-release. And it's a lot smoother to play, crisper graphics and sound... BUT it lacks all the cinematic music these console ports had added in.

  • @mangaas The lack of music in the 15th anniversary music is accurate to the original, but you're right, it seems to miss a certain something after playing the console versions

  • Thanks for posting these videos... I was arguing with my friend about how the Genesis port was FAR superior to the SNES port, and this helped a great bit!

  • I never found this game fun. Personally, I think this game should have been an animated movie, but there wasn't really a market for artistic animation outside of Japan. It's sluggish and boring as a game, but the art design is fascinating.

  • For some reason, there's a green dot on the title screen of my cartridge.

  • I prefer the 3DO version out of all the versions because the graphics are better and the music feels alot more cinematic quality sound.

  • What a horrible port of a great game! SNES version was so much better. What, you think just because I'm a SEGA fan means I'll be biased towards Nintendo? I might like the Genesis/MegaDrive and SEGA in general, but I'm smart enough to know what a superior port is, and this falls flat on its face! Even the 3DO version is better than this! I haven't played the Amiga original, so I can't comment on that.

  • This game brings tears to my eye. This was the last game my father rented for us before he passed away.

  • @mangaas It's my understanding that Chahi never liked the added music, and preferred the game like his original version. But that may be damage control, since Interplay added the music and thus Chahi doesn't have the rights to it.

  • the sound of laser gun in this version is.........BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

  • mine doesnt play an intro..do you just wait at the beginning?

  • Awesome, awesome, AWESOME game! Was challenging as hell, but not so much so that it made you wanna whip your controller at the screen (not in my opinion at least). It required quite a bit of skill and thinking involved in it.
