A lush production performed with Third Angle New Music Ensemble, Water Bodies premiered in 2004, and the result of a commission from the White Bird/Tiffany & Co. New Works Fund. Water Bodies was conceived and choreographed by Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland, with additional choreography by Eric Skinner. The show is performed with the acclaimed musicians of Third Angle. Hampton and Roland chose water as the take off point for the show because it is essential and endlessly variable. All life and movement can be linked to it in some way. They found it inspiring to think of water in dance terms, and dance in water terms, sometimes literally, sometimes referentially. Water as medium, water as force, water as a harbinger of disaster and promise. Water Bodies is an exploration of the theatrical possibilities inherent in a substance that is at the very core of life.
Water Bodies is composed of twelve original dances and two films ranging from the visually stunning mixed media work "Kaleidoscope" that opens the show to the somber moodiness of "S.O.S." to the playful humor of "Fishers Are Men" and the structural elegance of "Blue Room."
