  • @ModestMojoVanishes me neither, but let me just say that who is to say that you are being "cautious" by believing in what you do? and you are also hanging on to "rights"; the "rights" we give to non human animals

  • @an50331 Well, I don't think we'll converge. I don't believe in historical/cultural/traditional arguments. I hold that there are moral absolutes. I'm arguing that it has always been wrong to treat animals badly (btw killing wasn't always bad), and even if I can't prove that, it's a very good axiom to live by - erring on the side of caution doesn't harm anything, whereas doggedly hanging onto 'rights' frequently does.

I've no more to say in this discussion, which I've quite enjoyed.

  • i understand where you are coming from. i personally wouldn't eat foie gras, but i still believe people should have the right to do so. people have been eating foie gras for thousands of years, its intertwine with culture. and i don't believe we have the right to change that, because our culture sees it as "morally" wrong.

i find it hypocritical that we pick and choose what animals to protect. if you were born eating foie gras, you would see it as a human right

  • @an50331 I agree regarding the law - but who makes the law? - human beings (obvious, but it is central to the problem here). Don't you find it troubling that, in order to satisfy an immoral market and make financial profits, grotesque suffering has to be inflicted on creatures. The key concept here is suffering, which I maintain no human has the right to inflict on any creature. This is much more important than satisfying appetites and protection from legal prosecution.

  • @ModestMojoVanishes there is a huge inconsistency in current law. in some cases, animals have rights (depending on the animal) and in others, we could care less.

so its either property, or it has rights. if you are to give it rights, it should have the same rights as a human, if you dont then its property.

people have the right to do as they wish to their property as long it doesn't hurt others (i.e. people... who have rights)

sounds like self righteous bs for only the cute and cuddly animals

  • @LairdDrambeg Like most YT trolls, you avoid the argument by scatter-gunning personal abuse. I'm sure they'd agree - Roger Moore's celebrity status and acting ability are irrelevant here; and PETA might have some questions to answer regarding euthanasia. The only thing that matters is that millions of creatures are tortured to sastisfy the appetites - not needs - of solipsistic hedonists, some of whom even revel publicly in their debauchery.

  • @an50331 Right to do as they wish to their property?? On the contrary, legal ownership of an animal should not confer rights except to prevent theft. Ownership should entail RESPONSIBILITIES, including putting the animal's welfare first. If the owner can't or won't do that, then they should not keep the animal, but have it re-homed to a place where it will be looked after properly. This includes ALL animals. There is no 'right' to torture any creature.

  • @hellokellyable stupid isnt the same thing as insensitive. some people just dont care, and it is there right to do as they wish to their property

  • you people making these heartless stupid comments, if you're not with the issue then take your ass somewhere else. Jesus. This is an excellent film, VERY well done. I applaud Roger Moore. He has ALWAYS spoken his mind and tried to educate us stupid, insensitive humans to the issues no one wants to talk about.

  • fuck those gooses, stuff the fuck out of them... mmmm tasty liver
