Nick needed everything to be perfect. He knew how important a first date was to a girl and frankly, it was important to him. He had to force himself to breathe and just relax or else he would give himself a heart attack.
While waiting for Joe to arrive, Nick obsessively fixed his tie in the large oval mirror parallel to the front door of the house. His eyes darted from the mirror to the majestic grandfather clock. The clock read 6:08.
Joe promised Nick he'd be at his house by six. They planned on picking Selena and Demi up at Selena's house at six-thirty. At this rate, they'll have to rush out the door the moment Joe arrives and just barely make it to Selena's house in time.
Nick strived to be a gentleman and couldn't stand the thought of arriving at Selena's house late. He wanted to be punctual and did not want Selena to be mad at him.
He gulped and began to frantically fix his hair in the mirror, only to make it messier than it already was. Everything had to be perfect for Selena. Nick was determined to make it perfect.
"Joe, where the hell are you?" Nick muttered under his breath and like magic, Nick watched the door knob turn in the mirror and Joe strolled in.
"You better have a good explanation as to why you're late" Nick declared as he turned away from the mirror.
"'Hi Joe.' 'Hi Nick.' 'How are you?' 'I'm fine thanks.' 'Me too.' Ok, now where were we?" Joe smirked.
"Joe Jonas, can't you take something seriously for once?!" Nick was enraged.
"Calm down, Nick, I'm only," Joe glanced at the grandfather clock, "ten minutes late."
"Yeah, but we have to pick Selena and Demi up in twenty minutes. We absolutely cannot be late" Nick glared at Joe and suddenly realized how horrific he looked. Joe was wearing baggy jeans with holes in both knees revealing the hair on his legs with a faded Led Zeppelin t-shirt, dark sunglasses, and gray Converse. "What the hell are you wearing? We're supposed to be going to a fancy restaurant in twenty minutes!"
"I'll give you a couple minutes to catch your breath while I get a glass of your mom's fresh iced tea." Joe said as he began to walk towards the kitchen.
"Hey Mrs. Cyrus." Joe said politely.
"Oh, hi Joe, I didn't see you there." Nick's mom confessed.
"May I have some iced tea?" Joe asked.
"Yes, of course," she responded as she got a green plastic cup out of the wooden cabinet and poured some iced tea into it from a pitcher on the counter. "Here you go," she said as she handed it to Joe with a motherly smile.
"Thank you," Joe replied as he took the glass from her and took a sip.
"So, are you looking forward to the date tonight? Nick hasn't stopped talking about how excited he is." She blushed, realizing Nick probably wouldn't have wanted her to tell his friend that.
Joe chuckled to himself a little. "Well, I wouldn't exactly say looking forward."
Nick stormed into the room. "Sorry to interrupt but we really have to go. We only have fifteen minutes to get to Selena's and she lives ten minutes away!"
"Bravo, Nick, you know math," Joe joked.
"You are so lucky we're the same size." Nick stated while gritting his teeth.
"Uhh, why?" Joe asked.
"Because you're borrowing some of my clothes. You can't go to a restaurant dressed like that," Nick said with disgust, "and if you look bad, I look bad. And I am not looking bad on my date with Selena."
"Okay, fine, I'll change." Joe replied as if it were a burden.
They rushed up the stairs to Nick's bedroom. Joe finally started cooperating, knowing how stressed his friend was.
Nick opened up his closet door and pulled something off a hanger. "Here, put this on," he said, handing a nice shirt, tie, and pair of pants to Joe. He found a pair of shoes and began to rummage through a drawer for a pair of socks for Joe to wear.
"Do you want me to wear your boxers, too?" Joe laughed.
"Just put the clothes on," Nick didn't want to start a fight.
