A friend just led me here.
I'd never heard of The Birthday Party before, but after 2 minutes of listening it's clear that it's something great.

Hey SuperPais, surely Prayers on fire is superb!!! But "junkyard"? In my opinion it is a little better than "Prayers..."But "King Ink" is my absoute favourite song of the BP.
-
Trust me, prayers on fire is one of the best albuns ever. But, at the time, they got an "aussie" look - no look at all, lol. So is not taken so seriously, I think. But is a great, great album, one of the best of all times.

really crying out a sad sad song. try lis´ten to the danish band called "Sort Sol". Theyére woking with Lydia Lunch and made the LP "Dagger & Guitar" in the early ´80-ties. Something about "She´s howling"! Anyway..... like to hear that old junk music again. Nick Cave is the greatest!

Sweet man i just downloaded it and am listening to it now... Pretty rockin stuff... it reminds me of an Australian band The Moodists, which feature Dave Graney and Mick Turner (Venom P. Stinger, Dirty Three). They are pretty rad, i'd reccomend th album Thirsty Callings... Has a kind of Slates by the Fall sound to it....
