The Jones Library ESL Center is a non-profit organization that helps local adult immigrants in the Amherst area to become proficient in English. Over 80 volunteer tutors at the Center meet individually with an immigrant student twice a week to foster understanding, reading, writing, and speaking. We have also been recognized for our work with helping immigrants obtain citizenship status. For the past 20 years, the Center has been an invaluable resource to the community's immigrants, and has received local and national recognition by organizations such as USCIS, the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners, the Amherst College Community Outreach Program, and the Mass. Literacy Foundation.
This is an interview with one of the ESL Center's students.
