Now that's what Mike Wallace means when he says Nigeria is corrupt. At least even if other countries were corrupt as claimed, fair enough, but they are decent, wise and humane enough to take care of their citizens by doing the following: building and maintaining good roads, building and staffing good hospitals, building and staffing good schools, keeping the police in check & paying them properly, putting well-educated outsiders in charge & quit excuses i.e. we're just 50 & 150m to look after.

Corruption in Nigeria includes when almost 150m do not know who their representatives are; where you can pay the police, judges and anybody alive in Nigeria to get whatever you want. Where senators and reps are paid over $100k a month of public funds to do nothing while an average Nigerian live under $1 a day. Where politicians & their allies send their children overseas handing them thousands of public dollars to spend while no electricity, no roads, no schools and no hospitals in Nigeria.

Farrakhan lives comfortably in his late 70s in the US (a developed country with at least a functioning justice system & civil society) while Nigerians (a least developed country) due to corruption/bribery/incompetenc­e/greed/selfishness and wickedness of its public officials & politicians (at all level), has an average life expectancy age of 48 years and declining as corruption is on the increase. What is corruption and what does Mike Wallace mean by saying Nigeria is the most corrupt?

I've also seen comments here and other places praising this man Farrakhan. In spite of his contributions during the civil rights movement, he's let me down on this one. What about South Africa and apartheid? They're doing better than Nigeria aren't they? Why? You could argue the same thing that happened with Africans in America also happened in SA. Slavery? Well Africa (e.g. Nigeria) still live & thrive on slave labour (domestic maids, farms etc). However you view your accusers, truth creeps out

For more info to enlighten your judgment, check out the population of Nigeria and the majority tribe/religion in the country. See where your interest (or should I say, Farrakhan's interests) lie. Who is farrakhan and what is his mission? Is he a figure-head of which religion and who sponsors him or who'd most likely sponsor him out of all leaders in the world at that time and even today? Ask yourself these questions and look behind the rhetoric.

...when was this interview? going by the contents, possibly 1994/1995 or thereabout? Now this was the period (1985 - 1998) when Nigeria was ruled by the military, most notably Gen.Ibrahim Babangida & Gen. Sani Abacha (both Muslims to be precise). There is no point going into details here but check for yourself what happened during this period in Nigeria. Leave the corruption aside first (money looting in billions of dollars), focus on extra-judicial killings of thousands of your own citizens.

Farrakhan should shut up himself as he has never lived in an underdeveloped country before like Nigeria. He is just a bitter African American religious figure head who (to a great extent, rightly) feels a sense of injustice against African Americans in America. His outburst here stems from that background and nothing more; in fact, he does not give a damn about the state of Nigeria be it poor education, roads, hospitals, corruption and children dying in thousands everyday....
