Night Nurse the superior racehorse, but Monksfield ever EVER the fighter. There would never be an easy win over Monksfield

The very best.

Night Nurse, Monksfield, Sea Pigeon, Bird's Nest, a high quality field

Oh! the golden age of racing. 6 in a line over the last couple of fences. We dream of races like this. Styleish Andy Turnell and the quality of the horses makes this the best of racing. Happy memories bunking off school to watch the big stuff. Hard to compare with todays racing but I o like watching P Carberry/ Noel Meade combo.

I loved night nurse he was quick into his stride as he landed and gutsy

@elitemagpie Well the following year Monksfield beat them all hollow...so I guess Monksfield is the best? Monksfield was to me the best we have seen....not much between the big three on their day though.

whos who of hurdling greats

It's so nice to know that night nurse & sea pigeon have lovely resting places in the field next to Peter Easterby's house. It was always nice to stand by their memorial plaque in the field & think about how great they were.

He was fast a front runner and very gutsy NN top hurdler look who he smashed two years running he won a lot of hurdle races
-
night nurse and sea pigeon two legends
To me this was the best collection of hurdlers ever seen in a single race. Beating Monksfield and Sea Pigeon makes Night Nurse the greatest hurdler ever in my opinion, which is backed up by no less than Timeform. Just a pity he couldn't peg back Little Owl in the Gold Cup a few years later, as Night Nurse was a far superior racehorse to Dawn Run. After all these years Night Nurse remains my favourite horse of all time.

The 70's were a golden age both on the flat and over the sticks. Me and my brother couldn't wait for the racing on a Saturday. My Grandad used to give us his racing paper and we would pore over the form guide and make our picks for the ITV-Seven and the Grandstand Triella. After the racing we got the toy horses out, raced them round a track we'd made and took turns pretending to be Peter O'Sullevan. Great days.
