I can't believe in this day and age some people are ignorant enough to give medical advice that the minuscule effect of lead poisoning is greater or more immediate threat than blood loss, necrosis or infection.
A bullet in the body, even if exposed lead, will not release much lead into body. It will be wrapped in impermeable scar-tissue. Thousands of people (including rapper 50 Cent) has several bullets embedded in them and show no sign of lead poisoning.

@Treblaine Actually the old western bullets were rounded balls of uninforced lead, that if unremoved would spread throughout the body. Thats why amputees were so common then, catch the lead before it spreads. Removing the bullet was his only hope.
