So that's why it takes a while for you to get your new glasses.

After watching a few 'How Eyeglasses are Made' videos on Youtube today, I can definitely say that this one was the most informative of the bunch.

You likely opt for the cheaper options, without antireflective coatings, in readily available materials (like CR39 or polycarbonate), and you may very well be receiving faulty reject lenses. The local labs in my city (we have 2 non-retail labs here) reject many lenses for optical errors and imperfections that are usually imperceptible to the human eye- then the big-box stores scoop up the inferior lenses and sell them at the mall. Most people would never know, really- you get what you pay for.

probably because your optician you go to has a lab upstairs, that you have a fairly common prescription (i.e. not one that's really really strong) and that you've never ordered a set of frames that require especially big or small lenses :D - you're lucky - I have messed up eyes and I wear big glasses - they always take forever to come in :P
