Former Monkee Michael Nesmith. This song is from 1977 The video is from 1981 "Elephant Parts". Few people know he was one of the first to make music videos. A precursor to MTV.

  • Great video - but why use a second rate live performance for the soundtrack, rather than the far superior original??

  • @GlowWorm1962

Hmmm....That's the video. I converted it from an analog VHS tape to digital. If you have something first rate, post it.

  • First time watching this. Very good. Some comedy, too.

Thanks for your comment, You might enjoy "Eldorado to the Moon", too.

  • When this came out it was only played on college stations or underground stations. Don't know why. In Philadelphia we had a few stations that played this kind of music. It was great! Of course most (except one or two) have gone commercial.

  • @link955NH Yeah, this song never made the Billboard Chart. Not going to be played on WIXY 1260. Maybe on WMMS or even WGAR (weren't they soft rock back in the day?) I didn't discover this song until Elephant Parts.

  • @zephyrquartz Where?? I was living in Cleveland at the time (not exactly a small market), and in those days I listened to a lot of Top-40 radio. I never heard this song on any of the local stations. It may have hit the radio on the west coast, but that does not constitute national exposure.

  • @link955NH - Rubbish. What are you talking about? Of course this hit American radio!

  • @Bookwolf8014 Yes, Bette Nesmith, Mike's Mom, not only invented typewriter correction fluid, she started the Liquid Paper company, which was later sold Gillette. Mike later inherited Mom's money and founded his record & video company.

  • Actually the song is from 1977. Did'ya know his mum discovered 'Liquid Paper' . . . true story.

  • Asilazi .... Thank you so much for uploading this, of my all-time favorites. It was not until Youtube that I finally managed to track this down. Had been looking for years for the song elsewhere without success.

Absolutely great video too. Surreal, funny and even slightly subversive. I just wish that with all the digital wizardry at the disposal of film-makers today, wouldn't it be great if someone did the necessary to bring the video back to its original glory.

  • Thx to Johnny Zooms Bro , Kenny Lynch , for turning me onto this great new idea .... Music Videos . I wonder if will catch on ??

  • @Sonovox01 thanks for that info, i'll try and look it up......
