DAEGU (Sporting Alert) — Cuban hurdler Dayron Robles, who was disqualified after winning the sprint hurdles title at the World Championships said he wouldn't have had his gold medal taken away if he came from a more powerful country.

Robles, the Olympic champion and world record holder, crossed the finishing line first in the men's 110m hurdles final, but had his gold medal take away after judges upheld an appeal from the Chinese contingent after replays showed that the Cuban held back Liu Xiang.

"If I were from another country that had more power, that wouldn't have happened," Robles was quoted as telling The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"It's very controversial that these things happen in an athletics world championships, lamentably it was my turn to lose out."

He added: "You can always get hit, you open your arms and there's always contact. I've had races where I've collided with (American hurdler David) Oliver, with the same Chinese (Liu), that's normal and all the athletes know it."

  • well disqualified, but i dont get what people blame so much to Robles like he did it on purpose... The cuban delegation appealed the decision but he admitted

  • @manonegra76 Yeah it's not like he planned it to give him an advantage. So really he's being DQ'd because it happened to help him. Not really fair.

  • @jonolollmao That's horrible logic. Robles committed a foul that's why he got DQ'd. That's like saying if a long jumper doesn't mean to step over the board a bit and gets a couple more inches its okay cause he didn't mean too? lol Liu Xiang would of clearly won this if Robles could of stayed within his own lane. Robles not only fucked up his race but Xiang's as well. To train all year round for this one opportunity and have it taken away in this fashion. . . . SUCKS!

  • @PoliticalMastermind It was only a foul (committed by him) because it helped him lol. It slowed them both down, but yeah obviously Xiang should have won.

But what I meant was, with Robles being slowed down by this as well, he still beat Jason Richardson.

The only real way to solve this would be to swap Robles and Xiang around in the order.

  • Liu Xiang was coming strong from behind and already passed Robles when he got hit.

Xiang would have won the gold medal with Robles 2nd. It's a shame this happened and i'm sure Robles didn't want it to happen either.

  • @hxnncht Yeah Robles was disqualified but that makes the situation worse!... Xiang would have got the Gold if it wasn't for this...

  • sharman is a creepy looking mothafucka

  • even the nigger Michael Johnson wants to cheat for robles.

  • how did michael johnson know richardson would win?

  • wait for London !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jason richardson is so hot!

  • @jonolollmao That is good logic = swap them around. Robles still beat Richardson (and everyone else) fairly, the contact in no way affected Richardsons race. However its impossible to say with certainty that Liu would not have hit the last hurdle if there had been no contact. Okay it looked very much like he was going to win, but he didn't and the only feasible option is for a DQ even though swapping them round makes more sense

  • From the black commentators to the black participants, they all conspired to prevent a Chinese victory using such low down tactics so long as the gold goes to black hands and all this done, seen and heard by the whole world would not matter. Some hides and minds are really thick. I just see no glory in it but a big FAIL to an already suspect western low mentally of greed and grab.

  • @mtkppktm .......U are the disgrace....fckin RACIST!!!

  • The lesson learned is not to put Xiang and Robles side by side at the London Olympics.

  • Anyone feel they should've run this race over? Let the guys rest for an hour and let the guys run it one more time.
