In this weeks episode, David looks at the curious world of mens grooming.

Almost every mainstream product on the market promises to turn blokes into macho love machines.

And what's not to like about that? Well, well leave it to Master Mitchell to explain.

As ever, do make sure you subscribe to the show. You can download the show from YouTube for free and then watch it on your phone, your laptop or even your telly if you've got one of those clever contraption thingys.

  • I suppose this video explains why the male grooming products don't sponsor DavidMitchell'sSoapBox anymore.

  • I want a Cozy-Tron 5000!

  • "even a gay priest will take you roughly in the cloisters.." Hilarious.

  • I'm quite amused that, for a man to whom personal grooming "is not a burning issue," is nevertheless generally quite clean-shaven, has a remarkably consistent and neat (if not entirely 'trendy') hairstyle, and a 'uniform' of collared shirts in a range of colours, assuming three colours is a range.

Anyway, it seems that he pictures _all_ male grooming as that. scene from American Psycho, where a veritable army of bathroom products awaits a three-hour maintenance session.

  • @liftwell good point, i withdraw my previous statement. however, i still don't really agree that grooming is a less male thing to do. sticking to evolution, we have evolved to use our minds more than our bodies. grooming and clothing sends a message to the other gender than we may have money and stature and and many women like a man who is clean and takes care of himself.

  • @timmy47 its actually only in a very few species where the males are brightly coloured (and mostly in birds and some fish). Most mammal species it is the males that often fight against each other in order to secure a harem of males and they are often more muscular. Any additional markings or physical features on a male mammal is often used to show dominance, not to attract a mate. Since humans are mammals, it would be much more relatable to use these species as examples.
