The Australian Youth Climate Coalition present... Power Shift 2009. 1500 youth from every state & territory gathered at the University of Western Sydney for Australia's first national youth climate summit on July 11th - 13th 2009. Major partners: GetUp & Greenpeace. www.aycc.org.au
PowerShift is great in mobilising youth sentiment around climate change. From here how do we make the real power shift required to avert climate disaster? One can speak of favourably shaping the electorate around the issue of how best to implement a CPRS. But a CPRS, confined within the power structure of market capitalism, can't oppose this exploitative structure. Organisation against new coal-fired power whilst demanding renewables now are winnable immediate battles, a precedent to build upon.

The lack of footage of Nathan Rees being chanted off the stage is an appalling oversight. Otherwise, rawk on.
