On Saturday, 1st May 2010, the public gathered on the New Milton Recreation Ground for the first May Fayre to be organised by members of the local Lions Club.
The event was officially opened by Julian Clegg, a BBC local radio presenter who lives in the New Forest himself, and featured fun activities for all the family.
Cllr Alan O'Sullivan, the Mayor at the time of the event, judged a photography competition. The winner was Gary Murphy who had entered a picture taken in the Forest with just his mobile phone!
As well as stalls and information tents, manned by volunteers from various local charities, there was also a fun dog show featuring rescued animals.
The entertainment continued in the afternoon courtesy of youth project 'Static Rush' which aims to bring young people together through music.
The group meets at the Memorial Hall in the town and is supported by Coda Music.
