"Faster! I can almost read the next
Burmashave sign!"
"This camp classic tries to keep a straight face as a "sizzling expose" of American high schools. New kid Tony (Russ Tamblyn) talks crazy slang, makes a pass at Miss Jergens (Joan Staples), scores some grass, drag races against a kid played by Michael Landon, and outclasses the other big man on the schoolyard played by John Drew Barrymore, all in his first day. As it turns out, Tony is an undercover narcotics agent, and really wants to help these poor kids, especially poor Arlene (Jan Sterling), a sweet girl who seems doomed now that she's had her first puff of "mary jane." He starts working with, and falling for, Miss Jergens, but Tony's horny aunt (the busty Mamie Van Doren) keeps interrupting his homework by trying to seduce him. There's even beatnik poetry, and Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester from the Addam's Family) as Mr. A, the top man of the dope ring. Jerry Lee Lewis swings by on a flat bed truck to bang out the title tune on his piano. This is the pinnacle of 1950s rock-and-roll, juvenile delinquent movies, and an essential addition to any camp aficionado's library."

"Stupid haircut"? Booo! Jerry Lee had the coolest hairstyle of the 50's, bar none. It's made even cooler by the fact that it was such a "fuck you!" style. No man back then had long hair...they were too scared of being called queer. But Jerry didn't give a fuck...he grew his hair twice as long as Elvis, and dared anyone to kick up a fuss about it. Jerry was THE MAN. Still is.

  • Russ Tamblyn and Diane Jergens were two of the beautiful people of Hollywood in the late 50s, but neither bloomed into the stars their looks suggested they would. Tamblyn became the more popular of two thanks to his rolls in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and West Side Story,

  • to think that before fast and furious came out, our grandparents were racing on their hot rods already. Epic!!!

  • Russ Tamblyn - pothead lol

  • lol Norn Grabowski @ 5:41

  • all guys had long hair back then./ just not on the side or back. they had it back like men.

  • No this not High School Musical

    This is Rock N Roll

  • The Chevy that almost flipped at 8:51 was one of two and was built by George Barris.

  • This and the BEAT GENERATION, cool double-bill, Dad. Crazy.

For those in the Los Angeles area: this is playing the New Beverly Theater tonight at midnight!

  • This film is packed with every JD cliche there is -- great stuff! And I actually LIKED the beat poetry! Dude, those kids don't value their lives very highly if they're counting on making hairpin turns in those '50s rods -- even with a homemade race-tuned suspension. And the hero had the nerve to enter a '57 "Forward Look" MoPar product right out of Daddy's driveway? That's how you know it's fantasy...THANKS for posting -- I'm gonna buy it on DVD!
