Can you explain to me what "Songo" is please? Is it just a syncopated kind of beat?

It's a very syncopated beat :-) It's actually a music style, like Bossa Nova, Samba etc. It's not as traditional, came up somewhere in the 70's, but a great style of music and drumming nevertheless. You should be able to find more detailed info here on youtube or wikipedia etc. Cheers
