I view this song in the context of the previous two tracks. I don't think Ronan is supporting the idea that we should not be ashamed of the wrongs we have done in the past (ie, the unrealized dreams that he talks about in the last track "Streamline"), but rather that we have to use what's happened to learn and move on.
He says "We are measured by the actions of our lives" and this includes the past, present and future, the entire whole. Don't ignore the past, learn for the future. VNV!
