Afghan women have made progress since the U.S.-led military campaign that ousted the Taliban eight years ago. Female legislators hold one-quarter of the seats in Parliament. But the lives of most Afghan women remain very difficult, even desperate. Taliban militants have made terror attacks on women and girls who work or go to school. Poverty and ignorance are equally deadly enemies. As part of VOA's weekly series, "Making a Difference," Carolyn Weaver has a profile of one Afghan woman who has been quietly fighting those enemies and bringing education and health care to thousands of women, children and men.
