Just graduated college and am still poor, so I couldn't get all the highest specs, but since I'm primarily a console gamer, it should do.

Common questions:
Q: How long did it take to get your M17x?
A: Approximately 3 weeks. Dell predicted it would take 4 weeks because the WUXGA 1980x1200 screen was on backorder, though it came one week earlier than that.

Q: What does the ship date mean?
A: As far as I can tell, that is when the M17x will leave Dell to be shipped to you. I don't think this is the predicted arrival date of your M17x.

Q: How is it?
A: It's great! I did run into some problems when upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, though almost all of those issues disappeared when I did a clean install of Windows 7. Other than that, it plays games amazingly, and it is beautiful of course. When you bring it to a cafe and everyone has their Macbook Pros, it feels like having a Ferrari in a room full of Mercedes. More powerful and sexier :D

Q: Why do I need such a powerful laptop?
A: Gaming of course. On top of that, I'm an engineer, so I do a lot of 3D modeling and number crunching. Also good for HD video editing (just got my hands on a Creative Vado HD).

@9410besi Yeah, I used it for a long time. Now I'm using the Razer Vespula mousepad and it's awesome

do you still have this laptop? if so is it still up and running good? how many hours a day do you put on it? is the screen hinge still nice and firm or sloppy?

@bryman31 I still have it (on it right now). The laptop is basically as good as the first day I got it and it's on pretty much all day every day. I only turn it off when I go to sleep. One thing is, I don't really go anywhere with it, it just sits on my desk, so it doesn't get much wear and tear.

thanks. im thinking of it as a desktop replacement, so itll never see any wear and tear either. do you actually turn it off or let it go into sleep mode? also do you leave the monitor up all the time or close it?

@bryman31 I shut it down fully and close the lid every night to prevent dust from settling between the keys. I also have it sitting on top of a Zalman laptop cooler, though you can get a pretty similar effect just by elevating the back a little bit so there is room beneath the laptop.
