  • So I know absolutely NO ONE will believe me, but Mike Larrabee was my great-uncle by marriage. None of those athletic genes are in me, haha! It's so weird, yet awesome, to see family photos on youtube. Uncle Mike had a whole lot of support in Aunt Margaret. She so deserved that medal as much as he did. I have a pretty cool family.

  • thanks for the post.

  • That kind of pisses me off. Mike was a truly great guy. I used to run with the socal Striders and he'd come out this was a few years after he had won in tokyo but he was just one of the guys. He wasn't competing anymore but he loved to run. I can tell you this he was genuinely fast. If there is proof, and it would have to be irrefutable, I'd like to see it. But someone denigrating such a fine individual just stinks in my book.

  • In one of the articles in the October 25, 2010 issue of Forbes magazine, someone makes the claim that Larabee was juiced up on performance-enhancing drugs during the 1964 Olympics. Is there any truth to this claim?

  • @SPMYKET - Actually he didn't compete in this race. Richard Stebbins ran the third leg on the gold medal winning American 4x100 m relay team, not the 4x400.

  • @ikachanusa - That was Ulis Williams, he was ranked #1 in the world in 62 (while in HIGH SCHOOL) & 63, 5th in 64. He finished 5th in the '64 Olympic Games 400m and won a gold medal running the third leg of the 4 x 400 relay.

  • @SPMYKET I have mr Staebbins as a teacher right know and he tells good lectures

  • Mr. Stebbins was such an awesome teacher. He ran the 3rd leg of this race.

  • One guy fell down right before goal.

    What happened to him?

  • Great and touching story. I remember reading about him growing up, what a great champ.
