I got a request to showcase the differences and similarities between the two types of single coil solid body guitars. While there are many other variables which even make strats different from other strats, I thought I'd try to capture the basic differences between them.

The tele is a Peavey Gen Ex clone with BG pickups. The bridge pickups is a sweet T90. The strat is a Squier standard with stock pickups.

  • I have an '88 Strat Plus & I think the Pluses were the best of the 80's fenders. Beautiful guitar to play. I also have '52 tele which is actually faster to play due to the neck being a bit flatter. I play them through an AC30 & they both sing when the amp is cranked & overdriven. The tele gets a little pick-up rattle but sweet. I have a '76 Les Paul custom but I think Gibson are over-rated for the price. Les Pauls are too heavy but ok for a short while. Fenders, to me are a much better guitar

  • @skrimpshidy if you're just gonna run scales, hammer on's pull offs half note bends and stuff you're good. but any crazy bending or sustain won't happen on those cuz of the neck radius so yeah you're right. it's not just the reissues it's vintage ones too. just get one with a 12' radius and you'll be golden.

  • @gaffigantootie It all depends on the lead you want to play. Reissues definately don't sustain as well as some.

  • either ones fine. i like telecasters feel a little more but it's not a big difference. but don't ever get 50's reissued ones UNLESS you're a rhythm guitar play with no desire to do solo's and want a really comfortable neck for playing chords, then 50's reissued fenders are perfect for you.

  • Like'em both , all bases covered with on of each ... ~ cannonsville69

  • Thank you sir.

  • Stratocaster for live.

  • i find that strats have 5 possitions of similar tones. telecasters may only have 3 tones but they are very different and more versatile. the tele sustains more than a strat due to less routing and the strings going in to the wood. the tele will stay in tune, unlike a strat where one knock on the bar and its gone. plus if you want to double stop or bend whilst holding a note like a pedal steel lick or a blues bend the bar on the strat will dive and you go flat, unless you mod it or block it off.

  • the telecaster sound has so much more personality, they also look a lot better if you ask me.

  • You look like Don Vito... only browner! :D
