You can buy some new portable ones off the net now, with built in CD recorders.

Cool. I had the stereo version with the built in speakers on each side. Played the heck out of it. Surprisingly good sound from a ceramic cartridge.

The best was definitely saved for last!

I'm curious about something. When playing vinyl on these old-fashioned record players, didn't it scuff up the vinyl when the records came crashing down on top of one another as the platter continued to rotate? It is unlikely that this method of listening to records would gouge them, but I would think it would put some scuffs in the vinyl causing some unnecessary noise (crackling).

Good question. The label part of singles is a little thicker than the rest of the record and keeps the playing surfaces from touching each other. Newer LP's also have a raised lip around the edge for the same purpose.

Where can I get one of those GE portable record players. They're cool. I want one!!

I found 3 in local thrift stores, but it took me a couple years of searching once or twice a month. Ebay has them too. Last I've checked they go for about $20 plus shipping.

nice ge player! just like the red one. i love those automatic record changers. do you have a small mic positioned infront of the speaker? sounds great!

Thanks! It's just like the red one, only nicer looking and now, this one works better. I got a 1980's Realistic condenser mic set next to the speaker. :D
