In Verizon's Innovation labs in Waltham, Mass., we're busy working with partners to develop the future of TV. The teams there focus heavily on breaking down old tech barriers and on pushing the boundaries to deliver premier user experiences. They're also focused on increasing the energy efficiency of the devices that keep our customers connected—the devices that keep our customers entertained.

Our recent announcement of an app on Microsoft's Xbox that lets FiOS TV customers watch 26 channels via the console certainly points to what's to come. In the meantime, we're making your TV watching experience a little greener.

In 2011, more than 70 percent of the set-top boxes we installed were ENERGY STAR certified. These boxes use approximately 30% less energy in customer homes than previous models. Already, 100 percent of the set-top boxes we're ordering are also ENERGY STAR certified.

Many of us can remember when TV and video only lived in the living room; when we all huddled around the family PC to watch a video on YouTube. Video is quickly going everywhere.

  • @watice .. and how much jailtime is there for those violations? lack of common sense, is what YOU have. I personally know like 5 people who shares their routers security key with others. This situation will be 10 times worse with wireless STB's. Like the Verizon corporation, you fail to realize that people find the CHEAPEST alternatives to save money in this bad economy.

  • @ITALIAN926 then you're in violation of your user agreement & terms of service, just as u would be if u shared your internet with your neighbors, or a STB with a sublet floor in your house. common sense. you definitely lack it.

  • @watice Why is this so hard to understand. ? Im your neighbor within 200 feet, whether its across a driveway or through a sheetrock wall. I order 4 "wireless STB's" and LEND you 2 of them after the technician leaves !!! Get it now? Youre as clueless as the mindless engineers developing this crap.

  • @ITALIAN926 there is plenty of encryption in place. you can't share the video from your ONT with someone else in an APT using the same coax now, and you won't be able to then either. ever heard of a cablecard?

  • where can i get the new energy efficient set top box? i currently use the old, grey box

  • @ITALIAN926 Then that's your fault?

  • @Ifeelphat Hey "IDIOT", if you understood ANYTHING, Im talking about people voluntarily sharing their equipment. Not stealing.

  • @ITALIAN926 you probably put your user name and password idiot

  • Yes we use both cisco and moto that a problem, just run a newer coax cable that can handle the high speed data will solve the use of the ont and the stb that the answer and they should look into that . yes cisco stb to new customer only, Build a newer router that will do all 3 service ,verizon is the data company not video

  • @dmorganelli : We actually use both platforms, Cisco and Moto. It depends on where you live.
