A rare look at 4 of the 5 different endings to Taito's classic shooter. The deaths in the video are mandatory for the given ending.

Difficulty: Normal
Lives: 3 to start + two 1ups (F-Rear and K-Horolain)
00 01 02 + 03 04
Path: ACDFHKL

I sent an e-mail to Taito for info on what triggers a certain ending.
--------------------

I have found out that there are 5 endings to this game. However, I am still puzzled as to what triggers one ending from another other than lives lost.
I have beaten this game many times and I usually get a default ending of Orga being invaded or an ending with a Silver Hawk descending into a hangar.

If it's possible to pass this to someone who was on the Darius Twin staff, or anyone who can assist me in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.: There is a YouTube video that shows 4 of the 5 endings.

Dear our customer

Thank you for your email,

There is no hidden or secret way brings you the ending, it is extremely difficult, but the game itself is designed to be able to finish without losing life,

Kind regards

so then I sent another e-mail with my hypotheses
--------------------

Thank you for answering my previous email. So, to put it simply:

Ending A: Finish the game without losing a life
(Ending #3 in YouTube video)

Ending B: Finish the game losing one life
(Ending #2 in YouTube video)

Ending C: Finish the game losing two or more lives
(Ending #1 in YouTube video)

Ending D: Fail to defeat a boss after a certain amount of time expires
(Ending #4 in YouTube video)

Ending E: ?

I am still a little confused.
What are the conditions to get the ending where the Silver Hawk has to rush back to Orga because Belser's forces have invaded?
Also, does changing any of the options (starting lives or difficulty) beforehand have any effect on the ending?

Hello,

Thank you for being fan of Darius Twin,

Unfortunately we are not able to reveal so much for the ending as they are the clues to the game.

The ending may be different also with the courses you go through,

Kind regards

So, after all the headache, I find out that Taito is a little tightfisted about the endings of an almost 20 year game for an old 16-bit system. Go figure. XP

  • Is the last ending the one where the Silver Hawk flies back to Orga? I always managed to get that one taking the topmost route and losing either a life or none at all. Are the two player endings the same as single player or is there any difference?

  • @CountVonwinkle Although, I never tried 2 player, the lives lost requirement is not as strict as 1 player IMO. Path choice seems to be most important in getting a particular ending. Other than the ships being red and blue instead of green, the endings are the same.

I don't have proof, but I think that H-Karudo (Red Mist) and K-Horolain (Hyper Greatthing) (along with lives lost) are checks that determine an ending.

  • There is a Wikipedia article that states the certain requirements needed to obtain these endings. If this is useless, sorry about that. If not, great.

  • @drawesomekid I saw the article. There are two big gripes I have with it.

1.) I never went to J-Noemu, so i didn't fight Full Metal Shell. Unless there is an alternate way to achieve the ending, it seems to be bad info.

2.) I previously uploaded a video without the "Try again" ending. Czeineh commented about this and after I confirmed his method, I made this video and deleted the old one. However, he did say that if you fail to defeat ANY boss and beat the game, "Try again" occurs.

  • @drawesomekid about 2.), Super Alloy Lantern was used for convenience. I don't have the reflexes to deal with Great Tusk for a long period, nor do I think the battle can be timed out, anyway. It would be great if the guys from TASvideos do a thorough dissection of this game.

  • The soundtrack is top-notch. The Darius games, and other multi-route games, had great replay value. The music also added to that. It's John Williams quality!

  • @dublinky I kept looking at the same videos of Darius Burst and it doesn't have much kick with the action unlike the previous Darius games. But its still fun nonetheless. Although the ending scenes (I"ve only seen one), I'm willing to bet that some are sad and depressing like G-Darius and Darius Gaiden. As for the music, some are just hit and miss. Zuntata still got it though. I'm trying to get the game and the soundtrack regardless. I'm don't want to be left out of recent darius titles.

  • @leon4000 Sorry, the last I have is G-Darius and Darius Gaiden from Taito Legends 2 (ps2). There are some youtube vids. It has a sharper look than G-Darius, but I think it looses points on action, IMO.

  • @dublinky Do you have Darius Burst yet? If so, how is it?

  • @KollisionBR It's actually an ending of many routes.
