Not exactly correct--The Eb Contralto Clarinet is a very different instrument than the Bb Contrabass Clarinet. The Contralto is usually made of wood and sounds an octave lower than the alto clarinet in Eb, the contrabass is usually made of metal and sounds and octave lower than the bass clarinet. Unlike the Bb contra, Contralto's preserve the timbre and dynamic curve of basses, just with a bit more low range and deep foundation/most composers make the distinction between the two very clear.

That's the way to do it! I'm a pretty good sight reader and a pretty lousy ear player when it comes to notes, but I pick up rhythms well, and "alter" what I see on the page to what I hear in recordings or live for pop, jazz, and folk.
low notes on the contra are the BEST!

Nice rhythm!

Thanks... But in truth, I suck at reading rhythm off sheet music... Listening to music and playing that back is easy though.
