Recorded in 1950, this is Spike Jones at his best. From the album Murdering the Classics, a new way to listen to the classic opera 'Pagliacci'.

  • My dad, Eddie Maxwell Cherkose, wrote the lyrics for this wacky classic. Spike wrote the music. I'd love to see his name at the end of the video!

  • How cool about your dad writing the lyrics! Very nifty indeed. I hadn't heard this since very many years ago. I remember it well.

  • This is the best.

  • @rainbowcan -- Yes, she was Betsy Gay. The re-make appears on the LP, "Dinner Music for People Who Aren't Very Hungry." Check the YouTube video "Spike Jones - the Hi-fi Shop" to see Betsy sing this on a TV broadcast!

  • @caseyplace -- Your dad also wrote "Alto, Baritone, and Bass" for Spike Jones. He gets lebel credit for the vocal, as well (as Eddie Maxwell). Does he really sing on this, or is that a typo?

  • I've looked this for about 40 years and now was able to play it for my grown kids. Still so great! Hahahaa

  • best belch......ever!

  • @caseyplace hi aunt casey! tis be kylie!

  • @caseyplace I would like to see your Father credited also, he must have been a genius...I loved this as a kid in the long ago 1950's....Made it hard to listen to the Opera after this version!!!

"La Comedia e finite!" No shit? when does the tragedy start???

  • Definately Homer and Jethro.....but you got the words wrong......"All at ONCE there's a fat guy in a clown suit..." I heard this in the early 50's, and have listened to this classic piece many times....Give credit to the artists, and do not forget Sir Friedrick Gass, the "burp artiste"......

  • Love the video...but there were a couple typos. And how come Homer and Jethro are not credited here?
