History: On September 26, 1908 while in a dense fog the steamship Volund Sank in a collision with the steamship Commonwealth.
The Volund was discovered on October 9, 2003 by the NOAA vessel Thomas Jefferson. The first dive operations by the crew of the Baccala were conducted October 17th, 2003, eight days after her discovery. The team confirmed the shipwreck to be that of the Norwegian Tramp Steamer Volund.
