Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. offers a minimally invasive surgery to correct sunken chest syndrome in pediatric patients. As part the new portion of Baptists website to integrate video of surgical procedures, Baptist decided to demonstrate this unique procedure by way of video.

Sunken chest syndrome, called pectus excavatum, affects about one out of every 1,000 children. It is a malformation in which the ribs and chest wall appear indented or sunken toward the spine.

  • Would I be able to play football with the bar in my chest?

  • @Rouge4477 No contact sports as long as the bar is in. You should probably just come in for a consultation. Call 800.948.6262 to get connected.

  • Hey. Yes, sunken chest syndrome can affect your breathing.

  • @Hartzil Hey.. you can call our Baptist Health Line at 601.948.6262 to get in touch with Dr. Koury.

  • Does Sunken Chest Syndrome affect your breathing?

  • Thanks for posting this video. It was the deciding factor in having this operation, because this is the Dr that would be doing it, and the hospital that it would be done in. I was worried that the Nuss Procedure wouldn't correct my 'severe' pectus excavatum, because I'm 28 years old. I went in, two weeks ago to have the surgery, and Dr Koury 'was' able to correct it with the Nuss Procedure. Thanks alot.

  • This was really helpful. I have sunken chest syndrome and may eventually require a surgery. This one looks the least painful

  • Thanks for the video, very much appreciated
