  • *Wakes up in Happy Burger*......Bugger it!

  • these castle castings sirens are on ebay a couple of times a year and go for anything between 250 and 500

  • i lol'd at that piece of something that blew off the siren when it turned on

  • where do you buy that siren ? i want one soooooo bloody bad!

  • @grahamwebb2000 naw, it's just geared real high

  • @namco21gamefreak These ones are still in location - although they are never sounded nowdays. The met office came in with a media/text/email system instead which is worse in my opinion :(

  • there's a couple in Skegness because i remember holidaying there and hearing tests to make sure they were in working order.

  • @justie1220 electricity

  • @ihaterabbits127 This one is very much the one taken off of a local building near to me in the 1980's which has been restored by someone I know, and I know for a fact that the one that my friend has is definitely a carter, however the drum housings at each end on my friends one may have been replaced at some point in the past as the ends look out of place so to speak. Either way last time he activated it the local constabulary dropped in for a cup of tea and a sticky bun!! lol

  • @justie1220 Those that are still used are normally activated by the Environment Agency as they are mostly used these days for flood alert. The Channel Islands still use them for early warning in case of a nuclear accident in France, should any fallout from such a incident drift towards the Channel Islands. Most of these sirens were produced during WW2 but some are still being used for civil defence purposes. Most Councils in the UK are scrapping them due to cost and also spares shortages.
