Filmed at a local pet shop. Not sure how these little guys are dyed. The shop wasn't sure either. I am pretty sure that the color fades over time. Anyone out there had one of these for a long time? What's ur experience?

  • Apparently many states in america ban this type of frog and some pet shops get around the ban by dying the frogs and marketing them as 'jellybeans' or 'tutti frutti' as above. Do not fund this cruel trade and only buy from reputable breeders.

  • Yes, I agree. I would never buy one. The pet shop owner did not ask for these. He ordered regular ones as he usually does and these showed up in the shipment. (????)

  • i just read on google the dye fades over time as they shed their skin

    gotta love google

  • Thanks for being my research assistant!! Now find out exactly how it is done and you'll win a prize!!! I'll give you a frog!! ha!!

  • how did you managed to film this. Usually pet shops disallow photographing or filming their animals less they be brought up on cruelty to animals charges.

  • LOL. Well,..i got permission. I am friendly with this shop. Besides, though opinions differ, I hardly think that a "dyed" frog would fall under any current Animal Cruelty laws. ha!

  • @brimi925 ive had one over a year. its okay. lost its color after 3 months.

  • i am getting one today!i want an athletic one....can you help give my some tips about wich ones are more athletic??

  • Its sad. They get injected with some stuff as tadpoles. But they lose color after time!

  • the color does fade over time because when they are little they are fed a dyed food that is harmless, to those of you who think its cruel. I have 2 and love them very much. there just albino african clawed frogs. they havnt gotten any bigger than 3 inches. i find it funny that most people think its cruel when its not.

  • many regular ones r dyed but the ones i have are naturally the colors they are. i have a blue and pink one.gonna get more sometime

  • These people commenting are fucking retarded. Their eggs are dyed with food coloring, which is harmless. Some may find it cruel, but they are fine.

  • @TheCryptid09 rofl by the time the acid would have disintegrated the skin, the PH sensitive frog would have been dead 10 times over. you do know that a sign of a contaminated pond is a lack of frogs? because their skin is so sensitive it indicates whether certain water is palatable to animals. u jew

  • @IchCam haha you mean lest*

  • I found through genetics they were able to unlock the color code. It lets the frogs have no pigment and then something with color comes in. Like all old things they lose color as they go. Like a black horse getting lighter with aghe, or a dog turning grey. Even people lose pigament in their hair. Do yoiu get the point? You need to get your facts straight first before you just yell things out. Thinck logically and rationally.

  • Anyway they also wouldn't be tatooed(tooo stressful for a little frog), no acid(think about it, acid burns/kills a little frog wouldn't stand a chance.) If taken good care of they can live to be 15years old. I actually got two now and have been looking them over closely for any signs of abuse. They have a 5 gallon tank all to themselves, and they seem happy.
