I completely disagree. To me part of the purpose of covers is to play it in your own way. It would be fucking boring if every band played every cover song in the exact same way as the original band did. Some covers are intended as tributes, in which case it's appropriate to play it as close as possible. Otherwise it's good to cover a song in a different way, as long as it's not for that sake alone.

i have actually been to many rock concerts, and i believe that if you play somebody else's song, you owe it to them to play it as close to the original as possible, or not play it at all.

i understand that you were trying to say that jimmy page plays things differently, but he has the right to do that, because he wrote the songs. you can't just play some random shit and call it black dog.

i saw this band when they came to edinburgh back in 05 and it kicked ass, plant could still hit all the notes, as for them changing the arrangement/riffs etc its their interpretation, i think its good they're trying something new and showing creativity instead of playing it note for note like the original like alot of other old bands do
