"She loves you" was their first big hit in the USA, where I was living in my teens. I never heard the complete song until YEARS later because every girl between the age (in 1963) of eight and eighteen was required by The Unwritten Code of Female Puberty Bonding to shriek herself hoarse as soon as the tune was recognised. The most I heard was "She loves..." then it was deafening.
And I'm not talking about concerts; if it came on the radio in the next county you'd hear the screaming. Madness.

Most guys didn't like them until we realised that the girls were insane for them, so we went along. BUT... once they got past "yeah, yeah, yeah" and into the Rubber Soul and Revolver era and out of those idiotic suits and booties, we became bigger fans than the chicks had been. We just didn't scream; we only bought their record albums. Everything The Beatles did from that point was revolutionising music and not just for teenagers. They were a phenomenon.

You're right. My memory is not what it once was, LOL. But you're right on all counts. It wasn't until AFTER "I Want To Hold Your Hand" that "She Loves You" got airplay and became a monster hit, too.

Their first charting hit in the U.S. was I Want To Hold Your Hand. The belief was that british groups wouldn't make it in america and John didn't want to come over until they had a number one over here and that song was I Want To Hold Your Hand. Please Please Me, From Me To You and She Loves You were released on lesser labels like Swan Records etc., in '63 and did nothing over here due to limited release and no airplay. It wasn't until I Want To Hold Your Hand exploded they couldn't be ignored.
