This is Flo, our Spectrace 5000 EDXRF spectrometer. In this short clip, we're analyzing a collection of obsidian artifacts from Last Supper Cave in northwestern Nevada. After analysis, the resultant trace element signature of the artifacts will allow us to identify the geologic sources of the specimens and will provide some tangible clues about the prehistoric range of the rockshelter inhabitants. And yes, the computer is running an MS- DOS operating system and has proven to be the most reliable PC in the entire lab!
